Inside Line Promotions – CLEVELAND, Texas (March 29, 2016) – Johnny Herrera added another top-five finish with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour last weekend in Texas.

The weekend got off to a rough start as Herrera ran into a DNF on Friday at Cotton Bowl Speedway in Paige, where he had rallied from fourth to second place in a heat race and was vying for a top-five finish several laps into the main event before a mechanical problem sidelined him.

“We had a top-five race car,” he said. “I was riding around sixth for about six or seven laps there. Unfortunately, our motor let go on us.”

Herrera, who was credited with a 21st-place result, rebounded on Saturday at Bronco Raceway Park.

“We drew decent and had to win the heat race since we were starting on the pole,” he said. “We got ourselves in the redraw, barely, and got the No. 6.”

However, the start of the main event was almost disastrous for Herrera.

“On the first lap we bicycled and did everything but flip,” he said. “I stood it up and it was toward the wall. Luckily there was enough room between there and the wall and nobody hit us coming down the track. We fell back to 14th or 15th, but we drove ourselves back up to fourth there. We had a really good car. I was happy with the result. I feel blessed we could save it and not bring it in on the hook.”

Herrera’s rally gave him three top fives in four features with the ASCS National Tour this season. He ranks second in the championship standings and is only seven points out of the lead.

Herrera is scheduled to tackle the Eagle Motorsports Rock ‘N Roll 50 Presented by MyRacePass this Saturday at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark., with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.

“Fifty laps on a short track is pretty fun,” he said. “I really enjoy racing there. I’ve been decent and we’ve ran in the top two or three. We’re looking forward to it.”
