Herrera Takes ASCS Southwest Honors at CSP!

Lonnie Wheatley, PEORIA, Ariz. (September 10, 2011) – Lucas Oil Sprint Car National championship contender Johnny Herrera took advantage of an idle weekend to win Saturday night’s 25-lap Sunoco Fuel ASCS Southwest main event at Canyon Speedway Park.

The Albuquerque shoe raced forward from the seventh starting position to capture his 28th career overall ASCS win and fourth of the year in Southwest action aboard the Wesmar-powered Mesilla Valley Transport/Champion Oil No. 45x Maxim.

Herrera took the checkered flag ahead of Dalten Gabbard, with Kyle McCutcheon, J.T. Imperial and Jordan Stetson rounding out the top five.

Herrera and Lance Norick topped heat race action.
