Johnny Herrera Getting Back Behind The Wheel This Weekend At Big Sky Speedway

Bryan Hulbert – BILLINGS, Mont. (July 3, 2019) Jumping behind the wheel of the Michael Hayashi No. 12H this weekend, New Mexico’s Johnny Herrera will take on the Brodix ASCS Frontier Region at Big Sky Speedway on Saturday, July 6 for the Ostermiller Memorial.

In a car driven primarily by Tony Bruce, Jr. the Kansas racer will be in his home state this weekend for the 4th annual Midget Round Up at Airport Raceway in Garden City. While Johnny will be racing, he will also be executing his duties as the Crew Chief for Harli White as the pair will race head to head for the first time this season.

“I’ll still be working on Harli’s car and Mike will be working on my car,” stated Herrera, who has one previous start this season at Creek County Speedway on April 12 with the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region presented by Smiley’s Racing Products.

“Mike called me a few days ago about driving, and since we’re going to be there anyway, it’s a perfect opportunity to get back behind the wheel, and this time, be able to see what Harli is doing in the car from the position of a driver rather than just as a crew chief. It’s always easy to see and point out mistakes from the fence, so this is a good chance to see what the car is doing and how she’s driving, or at least that’s the plan. I just hope she doesn’t up and drive away from me and leave me in the dust.”

Johnny’s first time back to Big Sky Speedway in competition since July 18, 2015, his last trip to the three-eighths-mile oval resulted in victory with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network.

“I’ve always enjoyed racing at Billings. Being the Ostermiller Memorial, I’m excited that everything worked to where we can race this weekend. I got the chance to know Harvey and spent time at his shop working on our car. He was a big part in Mike’s racing career too, so it feels very fitting to be in his car at a track that Harvey has such a history at.”

Johnny would like to thank everyone who has stuck with him and continues to support his racing endeavors when he does get the chance to race.

The Brodix ASCS Frontier Region at Big Sky Speedway on Saturday, July 6 gets underway at 7:25 P.M. (MT). Admission is $20 with kids 60” and shorter admitted free of charge into the grandstands. Information on the track can be found online at https://www.bigskyspeedway.com.

The 2019 season marks the 35th year of racing for Johnny Herrera which includes over 140 victories in various forms of Sprint Car competition. For more information, and to keep in touch with the man called “Hollywood”, log onto to http://www.johnnyherreraracing.com.
