Bryan Hulbert – MASON CITY, Iowa (August 1, 2018) Taking a new car into Mason City Motor Speedway this past weekend with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com, Johnny Herrera advanced eighth positions to pick up Sunday’s CP-Carrillo Hard Charger Award.

“We were good. New car, so we had a couple things to figure out, but we went forward and that’s something we haven’t really been able to do this year,” stated Johnny.

Getting a rough start to the Heat Race after contact with Mitchell Faccinto, a little wing and suspension damage relegated Johnny to a 16th starting spot in the A-Feature.

“I was trying to not run over Travis on the bottom. He slowed up and I thought I had Mitchell cleared, so I turned to roll the middle and keep my momentum, and he was there so that put us behind.”

Moving forward eight spots in the Feature, a late race restart presented an opportunity to advance into the top-five, but a lapped car in the mix took away Herrera’s momentum.

“It is what it is. I felt like we could have finished a little better, but to move forward like we did felt like a win. We’ve been holding our own for the most part, but we had good track speed and were actually able to pass cars for a change.”

A multi-time Knoxville Raceway track Champion, Herrera feels confident going into the 28th annual Knoxville 360 Nationals presented by Great Southern Bank.

“With the way the car ran on Sunday, I feel really good about Knoxville. It’s a tough race no matter what you do, so hopefully, we can draw a good spot for Qualifying set ourselves up.”
