Bryan Hulbert – LUBBOCK, Texas (June 11, 2018) Johnny Herrera’s start to the 2018 ASCS Sizzlin’ Summer Speedweek came with ups and downs as the driver of the Mesilla Valley Transportation No. 45x earned a weekend best finish of eighth at West Texas Raceway.

Rolling second in his Heat Race on Friday, Johnny made the redraw where he pulled the fifth starting spot, but on the opening lap contact from another driver sent the No. 45x spinning in turns three and four. Restarting 22nd, Johnny tore through the field to eighth.

“We came back. It was a bad deal, but we were able to race back to the front. I would have been nice to see what we could have done from fifth, but it happens. That’s not to say I wasn’t mad about it, but once we got done and had a little chat, everything was fine.”

Waiting out a rain delay at Route 66 Motor Speedway on Saturday, the track was very fast all night. Taking the green from 10th, Herrera wrestled the car around the three-eighths-mile oval with the final result of 14th.

“I was tight in the Heat, and I thought we freed it up enough, but it was terrible. I haven’t been that bad in a long time” stated Johnny. “We made changes and just never got free enough but it seems like that’s been an ongoing thing for us so we’ve been going over our notes and the car and making sure we have everything where it needs to be.”

With the car back at Johnny’s shop, the remainder of the ASCS Sizzlin’ Summer Speedweek puts Johnny back in action at Devil’s Bowl Speedway on Tuesday, June 12, followed by Lawton Speedway (Lawton, Okla.) on Wednesday, June 13, Creek County Speedway (Sapulpa, Okla.) on Thursday, June 14, and Salina Speedway (Salina, Kan.), on Saturday, June 16.

The 2018 season marks the 34th year of racing for Johnny Herrera which includes over 140 victories in various forms of Sprint Car competition. For more information, and to keep in touch with the man called “Hollywood”, log onto to http://www.johnnyherreraracing.com.
