Inside Line Promotions – WHEATLAND, Mo. (June 21, 2017) – Johnny Herrera finished third in the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour’s Sizzlin’ Summer Speedweek standings while fighting balance issues with his car most of the week.

Herrera’s hectic week was one of consistency, although not particularly the type of consistency he desired. While he finished outside the top 10 just once in seven nights of racing – a 12th-place result at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, on June 13 – a second-place run at Route 66 Motor Speedway in Amarillo, Texas, on June 10 was his only podium finish. He was able to move forward most nights, with an eighth-place finish last Wednesday at Lawton Speedway in Lawton, Okla., following a sixth-place start being the only race where he finished worse than he started.

“Our Speedweek was okay, but it was kind of a struggle,” said Herrera, who slipped to third in the season championship standings. “We tried to get our car better each night by changing a lot of things and that’s pretty much what we’ve been doing all year.

“We finished further ahead than we started most of the time and even got a Hard Charger Award. But a lot of that was due to cars dropping out. It wasn’t necessarily because we were fast. Speedweek was a struggle for us. I wasn’t happy and I was pretty much a grouch all week. It’s frustrating when it’s like that.”

However, the week ended on a high note for Herrera and gave him hope as the team made the long haul to Washington for the 46th annual Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup at Skagit Speedway in Alger, Wash., this Thursday through Saturday.

“We think we finally found something on the final night,” said Herrera, referring to his fourth-place finish at Lucas Oil Speedway on Saturday. “The car was a lot better that night and I feel a lot better coming out west now.

“That’s good because it’s already a long haul out here the way it is. It’s about a 32-hour drive for us and we only stop for fuel and to change drivers. When I was younger I was excited to take a trip like this, but that’s not the case anymore. But I’m looking forward to racing at Skagit. We had a top-five finish there last year and I’m pretty confident that our car will be better than it has been recently.”
