Inside Line Promotions – BROKEN ARROW, Okla. (June 6, 2017) – Johnny Herrera is in the thick of a points race for the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour championship entering the most grueling week of the season.

Herrera ranks second – only 141 points out of the top spot – heading into the Sizzlin’ Summer Speedweek, which features seven races in nine days throughout Texas, Oklahoma and Missouri.

“If you win Speedweek that means you did your job and performed consistently,” he said. “Running for the points championship you have to be consistent every night and not fall out of any races. You have to have podiums and top fives and some victories along the way.”

The event begins this Friday at West Texas Raceway in Lubbock, Texas, where Herrera will make his debut.

“I’ve raced in Lubbock at the newer track, but this will be the first time at West Texas Raceway,” he said. “Hopefully we can put together a strong night to kick off Speedweek on the right foot.”

Round 2 of the Speedweek is Saturday at Route 66 Motor Speedway in Amarillo, Texas. Herrera rallied from 20th to an 11th-place result during his debut at the track last year.

Teams will have a couple of days off before Speedweek resumes with competition on June 13 at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas; June 14 at Lawton Speedway in Lawton, Okla.; June 15 at Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, Okla.; June 16 at Randolph County Raceway in Moberly, Mo.; and June 17 at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo.

“We’ve been successful at each track and have had good Speedweek performances in the past,” he said. “It’s a long week and a half of racing and our focus is to be consistent each night.”

Herrera placed third in the Speedweek standings last year after earning three top fives in five races.
