Inside Line Promotions – LAWTON, Okla. (May 22, 2017) – Johnny Herrera will head west this weekend for a pair of Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour races in Colorado.

Herrera is slated to compete on Saturday at El Paso County Raceway in Calhan before racing on Sunday at Phillips County Raceway in Holyoke. It will mark his career debut at both tracks.

“I was actually born in Denver,” he said. “I remember the snow and being a kid there. I lived there until I was about 6-years-old. It’s a lot greener and has more mountains than New Mexico where we moved to.”

Herrera said he probably hasn’t competed in Colorado since the mid-1990s with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series, but is hopeful he will adapt to the new tracks quickly.

“It’s no different than any other time we race,” he said. “We’ll try to compare it to other tracks we’ve been to and then make adjustments from there.”

Herrera is coming off his 11th top-10 finish of the season last Saturday at Lawton Speedway, where he ended 10th at the ASCS Red River Region event.

“We haven’t been real good lately, but I think we pinpointed an issue,” he said. “We’ve been off a little at the regional races. We haven’t been as good as we need to be. I haven’t been able to pass cars. When it comes to the feature time, lately I have a hard time passing cars. My car just hasn’t had a good balance. I can’t move around very much. We made some adjustments on the race car that will hopefully help us out.”

Herrera charged from seventh to fourth place in a heat race before advancing from 11th to 10th last Saturday.

In other news, Herrera is seeking a crew member for the remainder of this season as he competes full time on the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour. Requirements include: must be available to travel, self-motivated and attentive to detail. Sprint car knowledge is preferred and pay is based on experience. Interested parties can email their qualifications and racing history to jherreraracing@aol.com.
