Inside Line Promotions – WHEATLAND, Mo. (May 10, 2017) – Johnny Herrera overcame a poor starting position to notch another top-five finish in an ASCS Red River Region and ASCS Warrior Region co-sanctioned event last Saturday night at Lucas Oil Raceway.

Herrera finished fifth after starting 14th to score his eighth top-five result in nine races this year.

“We didn’t have a horrible pill draw,” said Herrera, who started fifth and finished fourth in his heat race. “But like I sometimes say, it’s not what you draw but who you draw. We were in a heat with some good drivers and just couldn’t move ahead much. I felt we needed to get to third to give us a decent starting spot in the feature.”

His heat race finish secured the final lock-in position for the main event.

“I was glad they worked the track before the feature,” he said. “It had two grooves and we were able to move forward. We had a good car and I thought we were better than we raced. Everyone who finished in front of us started seventh or better, so if we could’ve finished one spot higher in our heat we probably would have been contending for the win.”

Next up for Herrera will be a Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour race on Thursday at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan.

“I’m looking forward to going back to Lakeside,” he said. “Last year we finished third after starting eighth there. Our car kept getting faster as the race went on.”

Herrera, who ranks second in the ASCS National Tour championship standings, is also planning on competing this Friday at Humboldt Speedway in Humboldt, Kan., with the ASCS Red River Region and Saturday at Springfield Raceway in Springfield, Mo., with the ASCS Warrior Region and ASCS Red River Region.
