Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (Aug. 9, 2016) – Johnny Herrera showcased a couple of bright moments last weekend during the 26th annual Arnold Motor Supply 360 Knoxville Nationals at Knoxville Raceway.

Herrera kicked off the marquee event on Friday by qualifying 29th quickest to open his preliminary action.

“I didn’t qualify good, but we rebounded and raced really good,” he said. “When we hot lapped we were seventh quick. For the most part everyone maintained their time and I slowed down two tenths.”

Herrera scored a runner-up result in a heat race to lock into the 20-lap main event, which he started on the outside of the 10th row. He then charged from 20th to an eighth-place finish in the feature to earn the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars.

“I kept adjusting on it,” he said. “The freer I got the better the car got. I was pleased with the end result. I just got myself behind early in the night and at the Knoxville Nationals qualifying means so much.”

After preliminary points were calculated Herrera started Saturday’s finale on the inside of the fifth row in the B Main.

“I thought I’d make myself better on Saturday night and I made it worse,” he said. “I made some changes to the race car. I got everything way left rear tight. I changed my shocks around and it made it to where the thing was way too tight.”

Herrera picked up a position to finish eighth, which was three spots shy of transferring into the main event.

He will return to action at Knoxville Raceway this Wednesday through Saturday during the 56th annual 5-Hour ENERGY Knoxville Nationals.

“If I can make a couple of good laps in qualifying and put myself in position to hopefully get in the main the qualifying night through the heat race you never know how things will shake out,” he said.

Herrera has qualified for the Knoxville Nationals A Main a dozen times with seven top 10s and a best result of fourth place in 2000.
