Inside Line Promotions – SAPULPA, Okla. (April 12, 2016) – Johnny Herrera continued his consistency during the first two weekends of April.

Herrera picked up a trio of top-five finishes, including podium results with the ASCS Southwest Region on April 1-2 at Southern New Mexico Speedway in Lac Cruces, N.M., and a fourth-place finish last Friday at Creek County Speedway with the ASCS Red River Region.

“The consistency is still there, but we didn’t have quite the speed to win,” he said. “If we weren’t that good and we’re still right there it’s not that bad. Fine-tuning and getting that extra little bit is going to take a little more work on my end.”

The month began on April 1 at Southern New Mexico Speedway, where Herrera powered from fifth to second place in a heat race. That locked him into the feature redraw. Unfortunately, Herrera pulled the highest number – eight – in the random redraw to start on the outside of the fourth row for the main event.

“The first night we were just as good as them,” he said. “We just started too far back. Getting to them and passing them are two different things.”

Herrera advanced to a third-place result, which locked him into the feature redraw for the ensuing night.

“We had a decent car the second night,” he said. “I missed on tightening my race car up. The driver did ok, but I didn’t as the crew chief. I led the first five or six laps, but I knew I was in trouble. The track got real slick. We were ok when the rubber came, but so were the guys in front.”

Herrera held on for his second straight third-place finish.

Consistency remained last Friday at Creek County Speedway, where Herrera maneuvered from fourth to second place in an ASCS Red River Region heat race. He advanced into the feature redraw and pulled the No. 6 to start on the outside of the third row for the main event.

“We weren’t real good with the car,” he said. “I was tight pretty much all night. I freed up and was still too tight for the feature. It wasn’t good enough to contend for the win. I got to third at one time on a restart, but Blake (Hahn) got back by me.”

Herrera ended with a fourth-place result, giving him six top-five finishes in his last seven races.
