Herrera Captures Top Five at ASCS National Tour’s High Roller Classic

Inside Line Promotions – SEDALIA, Mo. (Aug. 25, 2015) – Johnny Herrera returned to Missouri State Fair Speedway last Sunday for the first time in a decade.

“It wasn’t too bad,” he said. “We drew decent and put ourselves in position to get in the redraw. I started on the outside of the front row with (Brad) Loyet. I think everybody that won a heat race won off the pole. It was hard to get a good start on the outside.”

Herrera finished second in a Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour heat race to kick off the High Roller Classic, which ranked him 10th in heat race points. That lined Herrera up on the outside of the fifth row for the 25-lap main event, which was his first at the half-mile oval since a World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series event in 2005.

“We were really good in the feature on Sunday,” he said. “We got to sixth in the first two laps. Then we bided our time. We had a restart and got by Wayne (Johnson). A lap or two later we got by Seth (Bergman). We kept pace with everybody up front.”

Herrera maneuvered from his 10th starting position to garner a fourth-place result, which was his 12th top five of the season with the series.

“Passing was at a premium,” he said. “Once everyone got strung out it was hard to pass. We’re happy with a top five there.”

Herrera, who remains second in the ASCS National Tour championship standings, is scheduled to compete on Friday at Red River Speedway in Wichita Falls, Texas, and Saturday at Abilene Speedway in Abilene, Texas, with the ASCS Red River Region.

He finished third during an event at Red River Speedway earlier this season and hasn’t competed at Abilene Speedway since winning a race there in April 2014.
